Cecil M. Alieff

January 27, 1927 - July 21, 2010

Obituary

Cecil Marie Alieff, 83, of Paris, Illinois passed away at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Carle Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. She was retired after fifteen years as a cook for Paris Healthcare, and had previously worked as a teacher and library aid.

She was born January 27, 1927 in Carmel, Maine, the daughter of the late Guy and Hazel May (Smith) Lewis. She married Warren Bridgham Alieff on August 20, 1950 in Old Town, Maine. He preceded her in death June 7, 2009.

Survivors include two sons, Eric Jon (Judy Booth) Alieff of Marshall, Illinois and Christian Lial Alieff of Shirley, Illinois; a daughter, Eileen Marie (Christopher) Preston of Charleston, Illinois; two brothers, Samuel Lewis of Three Rivers, Massachusetts and Galen Lewis of Carmel, Maine; a sister, Chloe Libby of Carmel, Maine; three grandchildren, Scott, Timothy, and Heidi Preston all of Charleston, Illinois; and a step-grandson, Christopher Boone and his family of Robinson, Illinois. She was preceded in death by a son, Brian Alieff.

Mrs. Alieff was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Paris where she formerly served as a Sunday School teacher and Guild Officer. She was an active member of the Asher Community Club where she had served as President and Treasurer. She was also a member of the AARP Edgar County Chapter and the Edgar County and Carmel, Maine Historical Societies. Warren and Cecil volunteered for Peace Meals deliveries and at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village, and were loyal blood donors for many years. She moved to Brookstone Estates of Charleston following her husband's death where she continued to enjoy many new friendships throughout the last year of her life.

Mrs. Alieff's patriotism was evident in her interest in and service to veterans organizations and politics. She was a member of the 8 & 40 Chapeau Passe, a member and Past President of the American Legion Post #211 Auxiliary, and an devoted volunteer at the Danville V.A. Hospital. She was also active in Republican Politics throughout her adult life, and served as an Election Judge in Grandview for many years.

For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to Lake Land College Project PAL or to the 8 & 40 Camp Super Kids.
