Joseph Michael Creedon, 69, of Paris, Illinois, formerly of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, November 28, 2013, at Twin Lakes Rehab and Health Care in Paris.

He was born in Terre Haute on July 9, 1944 to the late Joseph B. and Mildred S. (Pirtle) Creedon.

He is survived by three daughters, Kelli Creedon, Stephanie Kelly, and Michelle Foss; five grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey, and Seth Kelly, and Corinne and Alec Foss; cousins Steve Schmidt, Susie and Janie Creedon, and the Findleys; and his friend and former spouse, Janet Creedon.

He attended Fairbanks Elementary and Sarah Scott Junior High before graduating from Wiley High School in 1962. He attended Indiana State University, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in 1965 and his Master's in Education Administration in 1967, and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He taught science in Wanatah and Whiteland, Indiana, before coming to Paris in 1970 to teach science at Mayo Middle School. He later served as Principal at Redmon, Vance, and Memorial Elementary schools, and then returned to Mayo to serve as its Principal. He also coached freshman football at the high school. He retired from education in 2000 after serving several years as Vice Principal at Paris High School.

Joe belonged to the Terre Haute Elks Club and Terre Haute Eagles Club. In Paris, he belonged to Paris Elks Club and was a former coach for Paris Saints Football. He was also a member of Sycamore Hills Country Club of Paris where he enjoyed golf and bowling. He was active in the Edgar County Chapter of the ISU Alumni Association for many years and was instrumental in the founding of the club's annual golf outing and scholarship fund.

The family would like to thank Kim Stewart, Jerry Allen, Charles Hand, John Peters, Jim Bellerud, and Spencer Jobst for their friendship and support during his illness and passing. Thanks also go to Dr. Reid Sutton, Doctors Jeevan, Dultz, Holloway, and Desai for Joe's excellent health care, and the nurses and staff at Twin Lakes Rehab for their concern, care, and compassion during his stay.

For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Paris Area Church Women Teachers Breakfast Fund.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. EDT Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Calvary Cemetery in Terre Haute, Indiana with Reverend Gary Fairchild officiating. Interment will follow. Templeton Funeral Home of Paris is in charge of arrangements.
