He was born November 13, 1926, in Charleston, Illinois, the son of the late John Melton Woodyard and the late Sarah L. (Keigley) Woodyard. He married Helen Irene Richey on December 31, 1949, in Charleston. She preceded him in death October 1, 2012.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas C. (Wilma) Woodyard and Jimmy (Peg) Woodyard both of Chrisman; two brothers, Leo Woodyard of Paris, Illinois, and Ray Woodyard of Ashmore, Illinois; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Cecil Woodyard, three sisters, Hazel Bough, Ruby Bough, and Thelma Miller, and an infant great-granddaughter, Sophie Woodyard.
Mr. Woodyard cherished the many hours he spent sitting on the front porch of his home. He was an avid Bingo player and also loved going to the casino.
For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to Faith in Action of Edgar County or to Pleasant Meadows Christian Village.
Services celebrating his life were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Templeton Funeral Home in Paris with the Reverend Kenney Bass officiating. Music was provided by Susan Farris, organist, and burial followed in Woodland Cemetery in Chrisman. Casket Bearers were Arthur, Johnny, Henry, and Leland Bough, Jim Deplanty, and Chuck Wooten. Visitation was from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Templeton Funeral Home in Paris.
